Workplace safety and efficiency have become increasingly important over the last few years. The ways businesses manage space sets the tone for social distancing, collaboration, and communication between employees. Similarly, the spatial features of a workplace can have major impacts on employee behaviour. If an employee needs to navigate from one campus to another or move to a new meeting room on a new floor, they don’t want to waste valuable time searching for the right location. Our clients were looking for a way to improve the experience of their employees and visitors who were navigating their spaces. The goal was to provide an effortless wayfinding experience across campuses while giving easy access to workplace services within the floor plans.
To help achieve this goal, we began by implementing Esri ArcGIS Indoor Smart Building Mapping into IBM TRIRIGA. This gave us clear, visual-spatial data of each campus, building, and location. Once in the app, users have access to indoor maps for every campus across their portfolio, allowing them to navigate each building with ease. They can also locate campus amenities, collaboration spaces, and colleague offices.
The indoor maps feature turn-by-turn navigation in text and on a map view, where routes are highlighted with blue lines to help guide the user to their destination. Once they complete one step (for example, walk straight to the corner of a section of workspaces), they can then click on the next step that would guide them to their desired destination.
Interactive indoor maps make it easy for everyone--employees, visitors, and decision-makers--to get the most out of their workplace experience. By making it easy to navigate space and locate important amenities, we helped our clients improve daily efficiencies and maximize the value of their workspaces.
